The First Crystal
In the beginning there was one crystal, and everything was made of it. Light, stone, water, life: all of it was crystal, and all of it was one.
The legend
The story of Spes Mundus, and of the war for its light.
Six worlds, six fragments of one broken crystal, and a battlefield seven tiles wide where they meet.
In the beginning there was one crystal, and everything was made of it. Light, stone, water, life: all of it was crystal, and all of it was one.
Then it broke. Nobody knows why. The pieces flew apart into the void, and each fragment became the heart of a universe of its own. A world lives as long as its fragment shines.
Fragments are drawn to each other, slowly, across the dark. When their fragments touch, separate dimensions are crushed together. Mountains press against oceans; unfamiliar skies split along impossible seams. Peoples who never knew the other existed wake up as neighbors. Their worlds remain distinct, and the crystals are the only links between them.
Four worlds fused at once: a graveyard of restless souls, a jungle of animal folk, a fortress of soldiers, and a land made of candy. Together they became Spes Mundus, the world of hope. It did not stay hopeful for long.
A fragment's light is not endless. Every world in Spes Mundus needs more of it than it has, and the only place to get more is someone else's crystal. Every battle is fought around a crystal. Shatter the enemy's, and its light is yours.
The drift did not stop. Two more fragments fell into the war: the Prism, a shard so pure its people are made of living glass, and Olympus, a mountain of marble and storm, ruled by gods.
The six fragments
A legend of Olympus
Olympus arrived inside a storm, its sacred mountain carried whole across the void. But its crystal was fractured, and beyond its light the gods discovered limits they had never known. Hestia’s ember welcomed refugees at the gate. Athena sent scouts to learn the names of the other fragments. Zeus swore to protect the people beneath his thunder. The mountain now stands between two futures: a kingdom won by conquest, or a home held together by an oath. Every Olympus card tells another part of that story.
